SWIDDICH is a research study with the goal of having healthy and prosperous children
Iodine is important for thyroid function and is found in dairy products and seafood. The population of Sweden has previously suffered from severe iodine deficiency, which led to the addition of iodine to table salt in 1936. When you take extra iodine during pregnancy, for example through supplements, the body's iodine level rises. Important pieces of the puzzle are still missing from the knowledge of the role this has for the foetuses. To understand how the level of iodine affects children's health, we need to follow the children throughout their childhood.
